GREETINGS FROM THE BAROCK FESTIVAL MELK ABBEY
Michael Schade & Friends: Love can do it all

FROM THE MELK COLLEGIATE CHURCH AND PIELACH CASTLE

Although, due to the current situation, the production of the International Baroque Festival Melk 2020 will not be presented in its traditional format, the special circumstances can allow for the perception of nature and culture under a new light. Austria, spring 2020: The experiences of involuntary hermitage and social and cultural abstinence, due to the lockdown, have left a deep impression.

Therefore, at the beginning of the film there are images of the empty streets and squares; from these impressions the reawakening from the bizarre "spring sleep" emerges: a new experience, a new attention for what surrounds us. Wachau 2020: It is the 20th anniversary of the "World Cultural Heritage Wachau". To mark this occasion, Kammersänger Michael Schade and his four musical friends will travel to selected places on the World Heritage Trail through the Wachau, and then come together to make music in the collegiate church of the Benedictine Abbey of Melk.
In the heart of the overwhelming cultural landscape of the Wachau, the artists, who have been musically "silent" for weeks, will awake their world of sounds and tones again: trough their instruments and nature around them, they will rediscover their musical language.

The program: English Renaissance and Baroque music performed by a chamber music consort: tenor, lute, harpsichord / organ, flute, viola da gamba. This takes into account the current restrictions, while it also offers the opportunity for a more spiritual experience, which is also what the production intents to reflect.
