INTERNATIONAL BAROQUE FESTIVAL MELK ABBEY
Joseph Haydn: The Creation - il suono dell' universo

FROM THE MELK COLLEGIATE CHURCH

With Joseph Haydn's Creation, the opening of the International Baroque Days 2018 in the Abbey Church celebrated the wealth of human and divine creative power with one of the great musical masterpieces of the late eighteenth century. God's creative work, as described in Genesis 1, condensed by the composer with almost childlike curiosity and sparkling imagination into a colourful sound painting, breathes and shines through the natural formal language of the classical period with timeless grace and beauty. With three absolutely exceptional artists, Anna Lucia Richter, Florian Bösch and KS Michael Schade, this musical crown jewel was brought to life together with the first-class Bach Choir Salzburg and the traditional and extraordinary Concentus Musicus Wien. The overall artistic direction of this enterprise was entrusted to Stefan Gottfried, the musical director of the Concentus Musicus Wien, a specialist in historical performance practice and a first-rate conductor.
